Kodo is the ancient art of incense, practiced by Buddhist temples and Shinto shrines in the modern days, as well as Samurai in the past. Kodo incense is made purely from natural wood materials, radiating a pleasant aroma which can only be experienced with a certain mindset.
The tour is presented by Shino School of Kodo, one of only two schools of Kodo in Japan, with a history of over 500 years. The instructor will be either Hachiya Souhitsu, the 21st heir of the school, or the school’s senior student.
The lecturer will take you on a meditative journey through art of Kodo, where you will 'listen' to various fragrances, explore the Ten Essential Virtues, and experience the spirituality of the Samurai. Learn about the culture and philosophy of Kodo, and through the olfactory senses open your mind to a new understanding of the nature of life and death.
